About Me

Projects

As a promoter of free software and free access to knowledge I voluntarily work in different open source software (F/OSS) projects.

OpenUsability

OpenUsability is an initiative that promotes usability in free and open source software (F/OSS) development.

As a co-founder of the project, I am involved with organisational issues, but I am also an active OpenUsability consultant. Since 2006, I am the organiser of the Season of Usability, a series of sponsored student projects to encourage students of usability, user-interface design, and interaction design to get involved with F/OSS projects.

KDE

KDE is a Desktop Environment for Linux. It comprises a high number of applications which today can also be launched under Windows and Mac.

I am a lead member of KDE's Human Computer Interaction Working Group that advances the collaboration between accessibility, arts, documentation and usability. The Human Interface Guidelines (Draft) - which I co-edit - are one of the work results of this group. As an active usability consultant, I advise developers of the whole desktop environment on usability issues, and support several sub projects such as the PIM application Kontact or the diagramming application Kivio in a long-term involvement.
